About me

I Trained in the United Kingdom at Oldchurch Hospital, Romford, Essex, as a Registered General Nurse in 1987. Initially I worked in a combined, medical unit of coronary care and intensive care before moving out to primary health care. Here I worked as a Nurse Practitioner running my own Nurse led asthma and women's health clinic in general practice. After qualifying as teacher, I then became a Lecturer/Practitioner in Practice Nursing at Oxford Brookes University developing the first English National Board Practice Nurse Course.

I then took up the position of Health Care Service Manager at Cranfield University, Bedfordshire. My role included overseeing health and safety management for the evacuation trials on the newly launched Airbus A380. I also gained recognition/grant from the British Heart Foundation to run CPR courses for laypersons.

After moving to Barbados in 2002 I initially volunteered for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, and then several years later became ECC Project Co-ordinator. My professional career in Barbados began as a tutor at the Barbados Community College, teaching and co-ordinating student nurses, I also formulated and the co-ordinated the curriculum for the first ever accredited Paramedic Course in the Caribbean.

In 2008 I became the Registrar for the Barbados National Registry for Chronic Non-communicable Disease (BNR) the first multi-disease registry in the Caribbean. The alliance of roles worked very well and in 2011 I returned to the Heart and Stroke Foundation as CEO, after establishing a successful private nursing business, with a large cadre of support from the medical fraternity.

Some notable achievements as CEO include, negotiating grants and donations to help maintain and improve the Foundation, managed various high-end charity balls, film premieres and community fundraising events, established the 'Go Red for Women' advocacy campaign in Barbados, developed a comprehensive and affordable screening service, negotiating food label changes on milk products and Burger King placemats and project managed the redesign and expansion of the cardiac rehabilitation unit at the Foundation.
